65% Grenache, 20-25% Mourvèdre, 10-15% Syrah from galet stone covered draining soils on Plateau des Garrigues & Garrigues Sud at Sarrians, harvested in three stages, Syrah then Grenache then Grenache & Mourvèdre together, destemmed, 27-35 day vinification, pumping overs, part vat emptying/refilling, raised 50% large 52 hl oak vats 6 months, then three parts assembled, raised 50% large 52 hl barrels, 40-50% concrete vat, 0-10% 600-litre oak casks further 6-12 months, filtered, 27-40,000 b


very deep robe; the bouquet breathes strength, is clustered around piles of cassis, black cherry fruits which linger. The palate has a smooth feel, rolls with suave continuity, layers of black fruits, cassis notably. The tannins are polished, and fit in sleekly. It’s sizeable, but manageable Vacqueyras. 2016 ()

dark red. The nose gives a slightly reserved air of blackberry, perhaps the joint combination of just been bottled and a very cold day here in Vacqueyras. It has a neat sweet inner, some laurel present. The palate bears sound wavy black fruit with some spring of life, menthol, in the tannins. There are peppery outcrops here. It’s a genuine, natural Vacqueyras with some of the strength of its warm lands present within. The tannins could be a mite more refined. 14.5°. 40,000 b. 65% Gren, 20% Mourv, 15% Syr. 2014 ()

(vat/casks) handsome dark robe. Has a shapely nose which leads on a refined blackberry fruit, a hint of raspberry, some grilling. The palate tastes well now, won’t need much longer before being ready. The juice is easy to appreciate, and there is a small spot of fine grain tannin on the finish. Agreeable, unfussy drinking here. 30,000 b. €12 is fair. 65% Gren, 20% Mourv, 15% Syr. From mid-2016. Dec 2015 

2013 ()

(vat/casks) bright purple colour. Juicy red and dark berry fruit aroma. The palate is sweet and just a touch jammy. There are chewy tannins on the finish. This is a bit cumbersome, the alcohol evident as well. 14°. From spring 2015. 2020-21 JL Dec 2014


(oak vat) dark plum robe of subdued brightness. The bouquet involves blackberry fruit with violet, a floral and incense note. This bouquet offers good breadth and interest. The palate sets off on a typical Grenache from the sunny garrigue run – the fruit is stewed in style, typical of that zone. It is wholesome and bountiful in its late stages, keeps going, and the length is aided by the 25% Mourvèdre which invests it with a slight game-earthy grip and insistence towards the finish. The last notes summon a plump, cinnamon and herbs mixed roundness, with a rocky tang on the exit. The finish is a bit stern and rigorous for now. 2003 ()

strawberry, sweet nose – it is simple for Vacqueyras, has an incipient mushroom. Has a nutty, red fruit flavour with some body. Like the other domaine wines, it has an understated sweet tone.
