The Wines

100% Marsanne (1947-48) from red clay, stony, some granite soils on Les Bâties at Larnage, fermented, raised 10-year 228-litre oak casks 10-12 months, “in 2015, 2019 we added some semi-macerated bunches to help the yeasts, they add grain on the palate, too”, malo completed, not made every year, called Les Blancs des Bâties until 2010s, 304-608 b

(used 228-litre cask) yellow robe; the nose is on toasting, roasted nuts, spice. The palate has fresh threads, menthol, is complex, fuelled by a good series of contributors, fine white fruit, savoury touches in the glass. This stimulates mind and palate, is very good. “As we did in 2015, we added some semi-macerated bunches to help the yeasts, they add grain on the palate, and this has a lot of tension, which is interesting for a hot year,” François Ribo. 12 years Nov 2019

fine yellow robe; peach and aniseed, a not of quince feature in a lingering nose that is arresting – you need to dwell on it. There’s also roast and salted nuts, honey, very Marsanne signatures, lots of prompts. The palate comes with suave gras, silky sève [sap], is lissom and gliding, with gentle tang, grip on the end, aniseed there. This bears real good freshness for a second glass, has high character. There is a flavour of cooked citrus. It is highly engaging, a wine for la table – sweetbreads, chicken of Bresse with morilles or morel mushrooms. “My coup de Coeur is the nose, which I adore. Drink as aperitif, or with chicken, scallops,” François Ribo. Bottled Aug 2018. 2032-35 Nov 2018

full yellow. Full, striking, ripe white fruit aroma – this has vin de paille (straw wine) airs, offers apricot, notably quince, also pineapple – is fascinating. The palate is close-knit – it is a textured wine that ends firmly, has a clear, southern ring in its very good content, is a mini-Hermitage without the flair. Good length, good mineral clarity at the end, has a fresh pathway. Drinks well now, is STGT. The mix of a very good palate and lively nose is excellent. “I find graphite on the nose,” F.R. Has blossomed since bottling. 14°. To 2018-21. Nov 2009 Previously March 2009 *** yellow robe; tight, white fruits aroma – dried apricot with wisps of honey. The palate is sealed, not expressive; bottled two weeks ago, and lying low. Pepper in the white fruits, ends firmly. Not a bundle of joy today in the restaurant. From autumn 2009, could be decanted.
