dark robe; the bouquet is grilled, sizeable, offers black olives, chocolate, soaked black cherries or griottes. The palate is tightly woven around a voluptuous heart, its fleshy nature partly derived from oak. A thorough filling runs into the close; it manages to avoid excess, but needs to loosen in order to appeal more, is a bit confected, cellar-led. The 2019 will probably be vat only raised, a move I applaud. Decant it. 14°. From 2023. 2038-40 Dec 2019 Previously March 2018 ***(*) (cask) dark robe, mix of black and purple. Dried herbs such as thyme (from the inclusion of the stems) show on the nose with Indian ink, Morello black cherry; there’s almost blood, meat in its depth. The palate has a good, cussed nature, is tightly woven, really entwined, with oak wrapped obviously around. This is bold, square shouldered, pretty dark for five year old vines. The finish needs time to arrange, and it’s a bit loose towards the finish. Decant it. From 2022. 2033-35 March 2018

dark red. The nose is wide, has rumbly raspberry, pine notably, oiliness, is quietly sturdy. The palate presents blueberry, good cool fruit with streamlined tannins, a healthy, inky minerality. The length is good for four year old vines, the finish is crunched. The palate debut shows some silk in the texture. Decanting advised. 13.5°. 600 b. From mid-2020. 2028-30 March 2018
