dark red; the bouquet has style and good filling, darkness, a well concerted aroma of smoky black fruits, ripeness in the fruit, and the ability to vary with time. After its wide opening, the palate is also broad, unfurls a wave of spiced, mixed red fruits, plums, with likeable density in the no-nonsense tannins which add a layer to the wine. The aftertaste is lip smacking, nicely resounding, shows a touch of oak. It’s a genuine Lirac, leaves a good, nourishing impression, is suited to red meats, casseroles, has superior body to some of the 2018s here. 14°. 70% Gren, 30% Syr. €10.50 at the domaine. 2024-25 Oct 2020

sober dark red. Has a softly perfumed black cherry aroma with raspberry inserts, gives a fine and inviting, rather delicate start, has notes of licorice, some baked lands ground force. The palate wells on discreetly robust, full content, bears silk in the texture and sleek tannins. The fruit lasts well, with fine detail clarity as it closes. The fruit has a swish in its step, the tannins offer a little graininess, carry some bite. Good, solid quality here, red meats ideal. It tocks over well on the second half. The finish is dark, the length good. 14°. 70,000 b. 70% Gren, 30% Syr. €5.25 export, €10.30 at the cellars. From spring 2019. 2028-30 Aug 2018

red robe. Has a snug black cherry aroma, with a little earthy, “high” angle; it is curvy, on Syrah foremost, has some garrigue notes. The palate is juicy, ample and easy, bears black fruits with some kick in its fresh tannins, the length sound and secure, if not yet open and expressive. It has a good and sturdy heart, and some local colour, herbs and garrigue influences. It finishes with stealthy inner strength. Its tannins are the element that require time to soften. 14°. 70% Gren, 30% Syr. From 2018. 2029-31 July 2017

shiny, full robe. The nose has a low-key sweetness, a curvy appeal, mingles raspberry and blackberry. The palate is softly fruited, the fruit possessing a wholesome quality – it is tasty and sunny. Enjoyable drinking here with a well measured fullness to support it for red meats, pheasant dishes. 13.5°. 70,000 b. 70% Gren, 30% Syr. 2022-23  Feb 2016

fair depth of red. Clearly struck nose – fresh black, black berry fruits, smoky. Agreeable attack, moves through clearly, has good bite and ends firmly but not dry. Chalky late touches. Sound black fruit in this. From mid to late 2012. 13.5°. Bottled two weeks ago. 2025-27 March 2011

2008 ()

bright, bonny dark robe; good, wide bouquet – simmered black fruits, has a gentle air, nice sweet, floral notes also – black cherry and oak mingle. The palate holds fine fruit, gives agreeable drinking foods such as grilled meats right now. Textured wine with a fine grain, has late tannins and heat, All very orderly, high drinkability – its fruit is good quality, and this is close to w.o.w. wine. From mid-2010 if you want a slightly softer finish and the ability to drink it on its own. 2017-19 Dec 2009

2007 ()

(to be bottled this week) bright robe, purple tints in the red. Has a spicy, live aroma, baked fruit and herbal airs, a little of the liqueur in the fruit, also a nutty side. Forward, attractive red fruits lead the palate, with a licorice line that is sympa. The length is OK, and it is still tight and sealed at the end. This has potential. From early 2010. It is upright for now, but has clear lines. 2022-24 March 2009

2005 ()

full, black robe; has a rich, ripe nose – black fruits with a shimmer of the garrigue, toffee and wild herbs. The palate starts richly – black fruit with a meaty content – this is a lusty, savoury wine. There are pepper and licorice touches on the finish, where there is good grip. The tannins need leaving until early 2009 or so – they show a white pepper, bit dusty flavouring. The tannins need sorting – that is the main requirement. 2020-21 June 2007
