70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Picpoul, 5% Cinsault, purchased wine from 2 suppliers, vat fermented by bleeding juice off the skins (saignée) 10 days at 18°C, raised 6-7 months, malo blocked, 12-25,000 b

(vat) attractive pink robe; the bouquet is stylish, on red fruits with a trim sweetness, cherry and redcurrant, a note of dried herbs. The attack offers a rolling wave of red fruits, an immediate surge of red fruits, berries with good continuity all through, the finish broad and nicely sustained. There are notes of peach stone, kirsch on the aftertaste, which is full as well, with a final precision that invites a second glass. This gives a very good, bright glass of Tavel for la table, with white meats, barbecued fish and Asian noodle dishes all in the frame. It has the depth and sure feel of 2019. 2023-24 June 2020

2011 ()

pink, pale red. Has a sweet-toned nose led by an air of red cherry tart, a good and fresh burst – this has a pretty air. The palate starts on fruit tart, redcurrant, red cherry, has gras. It is well-fruited, with squeezy gras. A wine of nice foundation destined for food. It is clear, and the fruit carries well before a note of fragrance emerges. On form now. 14°. To 2014  Nov 2012

very pale red; the nose is hidden, reflects red fruit, baked stones, pear fruit with a light herb, thyme influence. This is almost a keeping rosé, a rosé de garde, until next summer 2012. The palate has muscle, depth. The flavour is led by redcurrants, is tight, and shows quince towards the finish. Good clarity in a wine slow to reveal itself. Decant this if drinking now. It glows on the finish – 14° total. 2014-15 June 2011

2008 ()

very light red robe; rounded, candy-strawberry aroma, crystallised fruits. The flavour is an agreeable red cherry, with enough guts in it to live a little. It is vinous, and suited to white meat dishes. A good CHR, w.o.w. wine – brochettes, tapas, paella, olives. Very sound, successful Tavel, of good length and body. 14.5°. To 2011 Nov 2009

the robe is pale pink with a wee orange or grenadine tint. There is red fruit such as crabapple and also strawberry and cherry in the aroma – is broad and quite full-up. The palate shows some of the Tavel manliness, and is pretty faithful to its terroir. It's a sit-down, food wine, has plenty of content, and a bit of the red wine style in it. It starts out freshly, and becomes nutted late on, the length being sound. Does not hit the heights, but is very acceptable. 13.5°. Jan 2008
