60-70% Grenache (early-mid 1950s), 20-25% Syrah, 8-10% Mourvèdre, average 45-50 years, from 300-330 metres at top of Les Côtes, limestone influenced soils, destemmed, 3 week concrete vat vinification, twice daily pumping overs at outset, Grenache aged 8-10 year 225-litre & some 600-litre oak casks, Syrah aged 1-2-3 year 225-litre & 240-litre oak casks, Mourvèdre aged concrete vat 8-10 months, unfined, light filtration, first made 1998, Côtes du Rhône Villages Vinsobres red until 2004, biodynamic wine, 4,500 b

2016 ()

shiny, full red robe; a good burst of red fruits lead the nose, lines of raspberry, the rustle of herbs – it shows sunshine, is sturdy. The palate is close-knit, pretty dense, firmly filled, gives late intensity, the finish sustained. It’s backward, but can show well. It’s rather a mass for now, brimmed up with red stone fruits. 14.5°. From 2024, and will be especially on song around 2024-2031. 2040-42 Feb 2020

2015 ()

full, dark red robe with an oily aspect that appeals. The nose delivers a coulis-liqueur depth of blackberry, has licorice and a meaty angle also. The palate is close-knit, peppery, sinewed, very 2015 in style; it lengthens with real purpose, and flourishes in impressive manner – there’s take off there, vroom! This is flourishing indeed. Oak gums the close a bit for now. It has good heart, and offers very entertaining juice before the finish. 14.5°. From late-2019, or 2020. 2029-30 Feb 2018

2006 ()

full robe; big, extracted bouquet – black fruits mixed with leather. The palate is also very assertive and brewed up – the wine is sealed up for now. The length is fair, but it never offers an easy ride. Oak notes appear on the finish. From 2010. To 2012 or so. 14°. March 2009

2005 ()

(casks) chocolaty, dense, compacted bouquet, herbal tones, is quite forceful. Good push and local feel on palate, though oak at the end comes through. Oak seems nicely handled. Flavour of violets, raspberry. Lots of tannin here. From 2009. 2018-21 April 2006

2002 ()

(vat) light pepper on nose. Red fruits without great flesh. Not a 'light' wine, but low scale. Some length, a bit sweet towards finish. Not bad. To 2008. Dec 2003

2001 ()

nicely brewed, compact bouquet - light chocolate, ripe without excess, stylish. Silky, stylishly rich texture on palate, some cooked fruit tones - plums, red fruits. Good heart to the wine, tannins need leaving until 2005. 2011-13 Dec 2003

2000

brewed, tea, damp leaf aroma. Black pastilles flavour, earthy. The end is mineral, the whole is brewed and heated. Rather soaked, heavy wine, rasps and gasps on the finish. Drink before 2008. April 2006

1999

wide, quite sustained, dark jam aroma. Palate displays the silky touch, the richness is well present. Tasty wine, very correct, with some end tar and tannin to give it a final kick. To 2009. Dec 2003
