2009 ()

dark robe, very full. Smoky, tarry nose with chocolate, black olives, the deep south in the glass. The palate is well-coated, carries lots of abundant, thick fruit, is very dense. The gain at the end comes from its pips – it has no oak, but it is almost as if it does. Stimulating depth and freshness here. Jolly good. A wine of character, its length is sustained, dark, crunchy. 14.5°. Cheap at €12 – VALUE. 2025-26  Oct 2012  Previously March 2011 ***(*) dark robe. Earthy aroma with a sweet inlay – an elemental nose, with airs of the forest, fungal notes. There is sunny, ripe weight in the bouquet. Game-tar debut to the palate, a wine of fleshy texture, has gras. The tannins give pepper and grain in the final stages, are crunchy, and need 12+ months. The Syrah is pesky here – reductive, and broody, so decant this. From 2013. 2020-21 March 2011

2001 ()

bouquet is deep and stylish, has a grilled top and savoury black fruit aromas underneath, a floral hint, too. Well-founded, elegant fruit, the Syrah plays a good role here. Sinewed texture. Bouquet more open than palate. To 2012. Dec 2003
