100% Syrah (late 1980s) mostly from Glun (sand-granite), with Châteaunebourg (granite), & the plain at Cornas (stony, more vines being planted to replace apricot trees), destemmed, 15-18 day vinification at 28°-30°C, pumping overs (we seek colour, but fine tannins), steel vat raised 7-8 months, unfined, filtered, previously made from young Cornas & St Jo Syrah vines, 10-12,000 b

2018 ()

very dark; the nose is hearty, gives bang for the buck via vibrant black cherry, licorice, light violets, pepper touches. There is light reduction, so allow this to breathe. The palate is more tight, runs with good abundance, dark berries, and firm, spinal tannins, powder grain there. The attack is formidable, before a straighter, slightly taut second half.
