dark red robe, a hint of matt. The bouquet gives a sweet black fruit pastille aroma, blackberry, with a leafy, vegetal, mineral-tin note in back. The palate has a cassis fruit and leaf flavour, fruit gums on the agenda, a straight shape, develops a tangy, compressed feel late on, plums on the lip smacking finish. It’s suited to casseroles, sauced dishes, is a little on the country side of town, but holds together. 14.5°. 26,660 b. 40% Mourv, 20% Gren, 20% Syr, 20% Cins. €10 at the Château. To 2024 Oct 2020

dark, gleaming robe; the nose wells up on vintage strength, with a charcoal push as well, has a slightly seared nature. The central fruit aroma resembles plum, liqueur of plum, and a note of rosemary hovers. The palate is nice and sturdy, well-filled, holds established red fruit with drive towards the finish as the tannins declare their presence. It’s a genuine Lirac with some ground force, that no doubt encouraged by the 40% Mourvèdre, so drink with red meat, game, and allow until mid-2020. 14.5°. 40% Mourv, 20% Gren, 20% Syr, 20% Cins. €10 at the Château. 2033-35 May 2019

sober, quite dark red. Crunchy, disorderly aroma that shows stewed Grenache plu, has vegetal notes. The palate fruit is low-key, lacks freshness, carry, thrust. Tame, commercial, with a burnt trail along the palate also. 14.5°. May 2013

full red, good appeal. Has a brewed coffee air, but the overall shape is square and sudden, the fruit lacking expression. This is plain wine – dry-toned tannins, a lack of gras, no roundness. Very basic. Needs fresher fruit. 14.5°. July 2011

mottled, matt plum colour. The nose is smoky, has a suggestion of hung animal, and black fruit on the turn. It is droopy, not lifting. There are sweet moments on the palate – this is a fruit pastille style wine with low ageing possibilities. Lacks spine, is dull. To 2012  Dec 2009
