The Wines

100% Syrah from stony leptynite granite soils, destemmed, 4 week concrete vat vinification, wild yeasts, regular pumping overs, malo in oak, aged 1-2-3-4--5 year oak casks 12-15 months, unfiltered

2016 ()

(casks) full robe; The bouquet doesn’t give a lot, has a couch of black berry fruit jam, a note of incense, rubber. The palate has a tarry debut, is wrapped in agreeable black cherry fruits with a live line of freshness emerging into a clear finish. This is good, drinkable Crozes with a crisp take that encourages a second glass. 2021-22 Nov 2017

2015

(casks) shiny, bonny deep robe. The nose doesn’t hesitate, comes right forward on oak-varnish, nutshells with sleek black fruits beyond. This is going to be impressive in a large glass. The palate is good and stylish, with wavy black fruits, and enough punch in the ripe tannins to set it up for cellaring until spring 2019 at the earliest. This approaches a mini-Hermitage, has that connection, that structure, is a very beau vin. The gras is full and elegant. The length is really fresh and sustained, allowing it to end on the up. 2027-29 Oct 2016

2013

(casks) dark red. Has a soaked blackberry aroma, an air of simmered fruits, with a bonny note of violet, floral perfume: the nose is a good start. This is shapely, nicely balanced, harmonious wine; it holds tender fruit, with fine grain tannins on the late scene. It has a genuine, local feel, and captures 2013 well. The style is more fine than pushy. It provides tender drinking, food best with it due to the grainy texture after half way. Has character, is STGT, will fuse its tannins. Holds good, scented granite cut. From spring 2016. 2022-23  Jan 2015

2012 ()

(casks) dark colour. Oaky, fully fruited air, graphite and black cherry mixed, works well. This is going to be tasty once clear of its oak. The fruit is fluid, the wine has gras richness, reveals black cherry, smoke and tobacco on the end, which also offers a touch of rose, flowers. A crisp, modern Crozes with 15% too much oak. Drink from 2015, or earlier if you like oak. A Crisp Operator. I like the mineral in it – sparks of that show well.
