The Wines

Syrah (2010, 2011, 2013, wire-trained) from 0.8 hectare on gore, decomposed granite soils on Les Eygas, destemmed, 3 week vinification, daily cap punching, 2 daily pumping overs, aged 4-6 year 225 & 228-litre oak casks 9-10 months, filtered, first wine 2014, 988-2,994 b

2019 ()

very deep robe, black-hued; the bouquet is full, not obvious, gives a close up and personal offer of stewed black fruits, is not varied as yet. The palate commences with a sure roll of black fruited content, sits nice and fully all along its route, has a sweet, brewed tone into its lip smacking, tarry finish, the juice thick, the tannins bendy. The young vines are certainly aided by the gore soils in giving some Cornas character and depth. There are good rows of black berry fruit lined up, and it will become more interesting, and looser from 2022-23. 13°. 2033-35 Jan 2021

2018

dark red, black tinted robe; the nose shows grilling, licorice, a latent couch of cassis fruit that is clear cut. It gives the sense of being quiet from recent bottling. The palate bears a good run of black fruits with some style, a good poise in their delivery, running straight along. This is well organised Cornas, with a degree of finesse and purity. The aftertaste brings in some iron-mineral pings of clarity. 14°. 2,492 b. €23. From 2021. 2039-41 Nov 2019

2017 ()

bright dark red colour; the aroma is suave, presents ripe black fruit, raspberry, is discreetly stylish, has a mild air of violets. The palate offers agreeable fruit off the bat, runs directly, takes on grain-filled tannins. This carries youthful exuberance, a touch of wildness. This holds decent potential thanks to the fruit flow. 13°. €23. 2,994 b. From mid-2020. 2031-33 Dec 2018 Previously Nov 2018 *** dark, sustained robe, black with a crimson rim. The nose has a beefy aspect, shows oaking, nutshells, some sleek black fruit within. It’s very young. The palate expresses peppery, agreeable blue fruit with a cool tenor throughout, has a cellar imprint for now, is a bit arm’s length. The fruit lasts pretty well, with oaking to take care of, oaking that obstructs the tannins at present. This will get together to be a modern, if quiet, rather light Cornas, leave until mid-2020 for that. It is bottled already. 13°. 2,994 b. 2030-32 Nov 2018

2014

bright, dark robe. The blackberry fruit aroma is nicely deep; there is some game and grunt in with the fruit. The palate gives a prune, ripe fruit debut. There is good potential for this as the vines grow up, since terroir already talks here. It develops fine grain tannin, a touch of flowers, on the finish. The length is correct. This is a good first effort. 12.5°. €22. 988 b from the 0.2 hectare, which will rise to 0.8 hectare in the coming years. 2022-23  Dec 2015
