40% Grenache (early 1970s) from basalt soils at Neck at Sceautres, 40% Merlot (mid-1970s) from partly stony lime, limestone soils on St Philippe at Alba, 20% Syrah (late 1980s) from clay-limestone soils at Valvignères, varieties vat fermented by macération carbonique, wild yeasts, Grenache vat raised 7-8 months, Syrah & Merlot raised 6-8 year 228-litre oak cask 7-8 months, unfined, unfiltered, no added SO2, first year 2010, 5-6,500 b

2017

dark red; the nose brims with red berry fruit, pine woods, smoke, charcoal, brambly fruit. It comes with a slight high note, reduction and wildness. The attack is good – off we go – it’s wide and holds some thick juice, with munchy late moments. This is rather handsome, gathering some dark tannins on the close, a good, fibrous nature there. As I re-taste it, it grows on me. Decant this. 13°. From spring 2020. 2027-28 May 2019
