The Wines

Syrah (1940s) from granite & gneiss soils on Les Blaches at St Jean-de-Muzols, 50-70% whole bunch fermentation, 18-24 day vinification at up to 30°-31°C, 2-3 part vat emptying/refilling at start, daily pumping overs, aged 7% new, 93% 2-4 year 228-litre oak casks 24 months, filtered, 1,500 b

(casks) shiny, full dark red with a black centre. The nose is on its oak, grilling from that; there is a lush and sweet-noted black berry fruit beyond, so it’s a promising start. The palate offers soaked fruits, supple and entertaining gras richness which spins along on its fluid juiciness. There is a little floral aromatic presence on the aftertaste, in with an increased presence of fine powder tannin and dark red berry fruit. It’s a becoming, relaxed wine. From mid-2018. 2025-27 Oct 2016
