70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre (av age 30 yrs in 2009) from 8 hectare red clay, stony alluvial soils, destemmed, 4 week vinification, daily pumping overs, part vat emptying/refilling, vat raised 10 months, filtered, 27,800 b


(vat) shiny dark red. Blackberry-prune, menthol aroma, tar and licorice also. This is a slow-burn style nose – there is plenty to give, and variety to come. The palate is flavoured with prune and sweet spice. This is a wine of some dash, and one that also shows oak - it lengthens on that prime influence. Bold tannins feature on the finish. Offers lots of content, travels a long way on the palate. There is a glycerol oiliness in it. From mid-2014. 15°. 2030-31 Dec 2011

2006 ()

sound red-black robe. Reserved nose – low profile, touch smoky blackberry, not greatly deep, lacks nuance for now. The palate is similar – shows blackberry fruit with in-built smokiness and a little tannic lining. Ends on a charcoal-mint mix. Could develop some reach and cohesion, but is not a big hitter. The palate fruit is plain, lacks gusto. From spring 2009. 2014-15 Nov 2008

austere, bosky nose that is smoky and biting. Dry on the palate from the start; too much oak, too. Black fruit that is charmless on it. July 2005
