The Wines

Grenache, Syrah, destemmed, 25 day vinification, pumping overs, automatic cap punching, aged 50% concrete vat, 50% oak casks 12-24 months, unfined, filtered, a selection form the best vat in the cellar, “drink with black truffle dishes, wild mushrooms, game”

2016 ()

real dark, deep red robe. The bouquet carries weight, intensity, is furrowed with red stone fruits airs, damson plums. The palate is broad on the attack, shows a little oaking, has a prolonged density, with red stone fruits, red meat droplets, a strong heartbeat. It’s in the cellar still, but will come through if left until 2023, say, absolutely no hurry. It has a surging delivery, and is bright across the late palate. 2042-44 Oct 2019

2015 ()

(casks) dark red. The nose is smoky, tarry, varnished from its oak, has an inky, black-fruited interior, the fruit clear but hidden under the oak raising for now. The palate bears sty lish content with some flair in the delivery, travels smoothly and with purpose. There is the 2015 lucid, vintage cut within the wine, and the length is very good. The juice on the finish retains concentration and signs off on the up. 14°. From 2020-21. 2033-36 Oct 2017

2009 ()

(casks) dark. Has a dense nose – dark fruit, oak – is not revealing a lot in an open way for now, maybe black cherry is its biggest theme. Oak mixes in with a coated black fruit on the palate – the fruit is abundant and mobile, rocks along. The oak is finely handled, but does assert on the finish more than I had expected (and has more to come). There is juice inside, so hope of fusion is there. I would like 10-15% less oak. From late 2013. 2023-26 Oct 2010

2005

pretty full, quite dark red robe; wide, nose that has evolved a little. Its primary aromas such as ripe red berries, flowers, spice and a tang of tannin are largely absorbed into it. This has an inky flavour, its red fruits intense, but the flow is good – there is a genuine Grenache show here in this nice, consecutive run of flavour. Full, pretty big wine, but the Châteauneuf Grenache finesse helps it out. This can sing in the future, is a bonny do. From mid-2009. 2019-21 June 2008

2004 No Rating

both bottles wrong: fermenting, stalky nose on one, bit of fruit on 2nd. Raisin and very forced vinification , dry wine, lack of fruit on 1st. 2nd bottle, served cool, has black fruit and tar, but the fruit is still tenuous and the finish dry. Can’t be judged. London, Oct 2006
