very inky robe; the nose has a meat stock, savoury front, with crushed blackberry, mulled fruits in behind. It’s wide, well posed, the fruit primary still. The palate links well, is also on a savoury feel, with resolute depth, persistence - indeed, the finish is very well extended. This is STGT Vacqueyras, drawn from its warm garrigue lands, with notes of menthol, gorse late on. The tannins give a good contribution, are tasty, sure. Gren, Mourv. €16.90. From 2022, decant it. 2038-40 Feb 2020

sober dark robe. Stewed black berries, grilling, meat stock airs lead a pretty ample bouquet which still has pockets of mystery, more to offer. The palate holds oily content, has a black olives flavour, with blueberry jam, and an insistent delivery towards the close, tight wrapping of tannin there. Decanting helpful. This has the potential to vary and show local colours. It’s going to release its juice only slowly. 15°. From spring 2020. 2030-32 Feb 2018

fair red robe with a lighter rim. The nose is brewed, a little stewed via black fruits that carry some reduction. Air will help it to clarify. Black stone fruits are to the fore, with a smoky trail. The palate is peppery, direct, carries black fruits with a swish of gras just before the peppery, grainy close. It has fair width, and will be softer all through from 2018. A sensible Vacqueyras without bells and whistles. 14.5°. Gren, with Mourv. €16.50 at the cellars. 2023-24 May 2017

full robe. The bouquet carries an air of raspberry, some sweet herbs, isn’t fully out and about yet. There is a latent note of baking. The palate holds prominent juiced black fruit content that has a black pepper presence, then a rush of tannin that is dark and drying for the time being. It could have been bottled a little later, I feel. There is some energy, so leave until 2017. Decanting an option. 14°. €16.40. 2023-24  Dec 2015
