The Wines

60% Grenache (oldest mid-1960s), 35% Syrah, 5% Counoise (also Cinsault until 2001), destemmed, 2-3 week vat vinification, with part in 100 hl oak cask (Syrah, plus some Grenache), pumping overs, part vat empting/refilling, vat raised 24 months, unfined, filtered, since 2015 some wine sold in bulk, so has fallen from 93,000-105,000 b to 30-75,000 b

(vat) pretty full red colour. The bouquet has a garrigue, mixed herbs aspect, plum fruit from its Grenache at its centre, a pleasing oiliness from the sunny vintage. The palate is well measured, unhurried, carries red stone fruit that has good detail, comes with a nudge of spice, and tannins that add a careful extra layer of content. This is shapely, genuine Beaumes with good, fresh appeal on the close. From spring 2020. 2029-31 Mar 2018

dark red. The nose is sweetly fruited, a strawberry jam or coulis air prominent. There’s a hint of herbes de Provence, pumice stone alongside, and they serve to limit the sweet effect from going over the top. The palate picks up the sweet baton, bears spicy red-fruited content, with a little mineral in the tannins to change the texture late on. It’s an honest glass of Beaumes red, for country dishes, lamb chops. 14°. 67,000 b. 2026-28 Mar 2018

plum red robe. There’s a gentle evolution on the nose, which offers an air of cooked strawberry or jam. It has a charming simplicity, is natural. The palate is softly fruited, aromatic, with light spicing, and a funnel of cosy tannins on the close. This is drinking very well now, the red fruits right up for veal, pork dishes. 14°. A low 67,000 b this year. 500 hl. 2022-23 Mar 2018 Previously Feb 2016 **** (vat) dark red, legs visible. There is a mild aroma of blackberry in the lead on the nose, a sense of prune and increased wells of supply within. This attacks well, based on black stone fruits with spice and pepper. It grips well on the finish, has good charge and a lip smacking delivery there. True local attributes here, STGT characteristics. 14°. From 2017. 2021-22  Feb 2016

gush of full red in the robe; the bouquet is nice and ample, led by blackberry fruit – an attractive bounty here led by a hint of earthy, game airs in the background. The overall impression is one of ripeness. There is good, tasty blackberry fruit on the palate, the wine runs with good lines, offers breezy drinking. It is good in this early stage now, a w.o.w. wine. Modest late tannins round it off well. 2013-14 July 2009 Previously Nov 2008 *** (vat) dark red, black robe; blackberry with a sweet, gently mulled nature on the nose, which is quite expansive. The palate leads with blackberry fruits; they are supple and show early squeeze, before a tighter, altitude note of clarity and licorice snap come along, typical of its place. The power and alcohol are just about OK, under control. The fruit peeks out again at the end, and is pretty. Probably best early for its fruit, so esp late 2009 onwards to 2012. There is a nicely oily finale. Can live to 2014-15. Nov 2008

2006 No Rating

(vat) quite full dark red, black colour; smoky, upright black fruit with a leather upholstery, assertive and some power with damp, dank notes as well as some iris. The palate has forward, ripe fruit, as if macerated a decent while. It sustains its sappy flesh but isn't fresh and there is alcohol in the texture. Wait to judge this until after bottling. Balance not right on this sample. Nov 2008

(vat) supple, black fruit nose that is nicely ripe. Elegant, agreeable fruit delivered with a round texture, a good harmony. 2013-15. “It`s 14°- that would have been unusual 25 years ago,” Etienne de Menthon. July 2005

nice warm nose with herbs attached; the palate is wholesome, has a good, savoury feel. Holds black jam served with attitude, a bit of licorice crunch from its altitude, no doubt. Garrigue herb-stone finish. 2011-12 July 2005

smoky, light bacon and herbs mix on the nose. Quite a suave wine on the palate: decent content with correct length and a raspberry aftertaste. To 2009. July 2005

young red robe still; the nose is reserved – there is steady black fruit here with some pastille in the flavour, is primary even at four years' old. Good definition on the palate – clear, black fruits that are tasty, but like the owner himself are restrained and elegant. 2013. July 2005
