The Wines

2006

quite a dark red, some matt in it. Wide, shouldery nose that delivers black jelly aromas like a crème de Dijon – there is power, alcohol in this. Muscular wine on the palate, one that pushes out. Smoky red fruit lies within with a growing tannic couch towards the finish, and leaving a solid after imprint. Raspberry aftertaste, a welcome glimpse of fruit there, beyond the power. A bit forced, but it delivers. Good with the sweetness of lamb, for instance. 14.5°. To 2012. Feb 2009

bright, bonny full red. The bouquet is soft, broad and easy – carries raspberry jam with a little leather n`spice, a sprinkle of pepper. There is ripe fruit on the palate, with well-fashioned tannin that is well embedded, and I suspect some Mourvèdre present to lengthen it, and to provide a late, black fruit lift. This drinks well now, and will rock on in a busy way towards 2010. The fruit is clear and uncomplicated. There is some gaminess late in the day, a hint of earthiness. Good balance. Good value providing it is cheap. 13.5°. 2011-12 Nov 2007
