Syrah (oldest 1970s) from 2.5 hectares on S facing decomposed granite soils at Sarras, also from 0.3 ha at Arras, 0.3 ha at Vion (central-southern zone, granite soils), 70% destemmed, 3-week steel vat vinification, wild yeasts, 1st week 25-28°C, then 1 week up to 32°C, twice daily pumping overs, cap punchings, ends at 25-28°C, malolactic in oak casks, aged 2-4 year 228-litre oak casks 12 months, then vat 6 months, unfined, unfiltered, first wine 2007, up from 8,000 b to 10,000-15,000 b

2018

(steel vat) very dark; has an elegant, well filled black cherry, blackberry fruited bouquet, carries some inky strength, coulis style fruit on wheels here. The palate presents racy fruit, a winning criss-cross around the palate, salted threads. It tastes well now, has immediate delivery. It’s very likeable, up front, with engaging fruit, a touch of black olives, the South, on the finish – the Sarras vineyard is full South. It will probably close in the autumn of 2020, but will please. 2026-27 Feb 2020

2017 ()

dark robe; the bouquet leads on raspberry with cherry, is attractive, the mixed fruits appealing, the raspberry pinpoint, is gentle and good. The attack is soft, and it rolls along on vintage squeezy sweetness, is fleshy, ends on that roll of pleasure, is genuine, drinks honestly. It’s nicely on the go now, its powder tannin moving into it. “It’s balanced, fresh, despite the solar year”, S Gauthier. 14°. Bottled spring 2019. €22 at the cellars. 2025-26 Feb 2020

2013

dark robe. Chocolate, prune, and a meatiness show in a deep style of bouquet, one that is a bit on the worked side. The palate has a high tone note, with black cherry fruit and sleek, tar coated tannins. It ends with gras. For la table, is quite imposing wine. Drink with roast beef, for instance. 2009 ()

full, dark, shiny robe, legs down the glass. Close-knit black fruits aroma whose state of ripeness brings in soaked cherries – griottes – damp notes, a hint of black cherry cough medicine, pockets of herbs. Easy moving fruit on the palate, its flavour running across the mouth – black berries and some sweet gras. It ends on that roundness. An honest drop, without pretension. Drinks OK already. It stops a little, maybe because it has just been bottled, but the fruit is very agreeable. 13°. 2018-19 Nov 2010

2007

full robe; oily, jammy nose with a touch of the high tone, black cherries are here, and there is depth to it. Carefully presented black fruit leads the palate; the fruit is smoky, and tarry late on. It extends under the influence of moderate oaking, but needs to soften the last stages which are a bit taut just now. A sound drop that needs leaving until early 2010. To 2016 or so. March 2009
