2017 ()

(casks) very dark, also bright robe, full of appeal at this stage. The nose is stylish, well filled, holds well, offers blackberry with a really fine sweetness, a note of violet, sweet oak and licorice attached. The palate is silky in its flow, the tannins super ripe and enjoyable, has sweet oak attached. This is classy, poised Cornas which develops a more firm, smoky late stage as it increases in depth. It’s very well orchestrated, is a real beauty, carries great appeal. From 2021. 2038-40 Dec 2018

2016

(casks) shiny, dark robe. The nose has a grainy, nutshells note from its oak, a layer of cassis-black cherry fruit below. The palate is tight-knit, holds direct black berry fruit with keen tannins and their tar assertion. I note the purity of its fruit. The aftertaste stands out on its own, via a rocky tang and a hint of violets. This is not an evident wine for now, but it has quality and potential; leave until 2020. 13.5°. 2030-32 Nov 2017

2015

(casks) dark robe. The bouquet is closed, gives a murmur of black berry fruit, charcoal and licorice, some wet stones minerality. The palate holds tight, lithe matter with a cautious issue of juice as it goes. It’s got good potential, with a pretty stylish gras lying at its heart. The aftertaste brings in violets, simmered wild blackberry fruit. This is interesting, nuanced wine, a tight take on Burgundy. 13.5°. From 2019. 2029-31 Oct 2016

2014 ()

(casks) dark robe. The bouquet gives a free, clear air of black berry-cherry fruit, a note of grilled beef adding depth. The palate is supple from the start, holds trim black fruit, the tannins mild and gummy. It lacks a little weight on the second half of the palate. It will drink openly from as soon as 2017. Suited to grills, roast meats: take it on the up. 13°. 2023-24  Oct 2015

2012 ()

(casks) shiny, dark robe. The nose is quietly intense, comes with chocolate, meatiness, beef stock airs, a coating of black berry jam inside, the fruit thick and ripe. There is a note of depth from an aroma of Indian tea. After a surging debut, the palate draws to a quiet close; the fruit is still obscure, the matter around it cloaking it. This has a ripe foundation, and kick in its gummy tannins. Full, slow-burn wine that covers a wide territory. Decant this. From 2017. 2028-29  Nov 2013

NOT PRODUCED – went into Empreintes

2010

(casks) legs run down an imposing, dark robe. Blackberry fruit air, slight game present; the nose also involves cold tea, light cocoa, red meat. The palate kicks off on black fruit, swiftly followed by a firm, oak-tannin coating. A bit strict, especially compared to the Boy Racer Cornas 2010s. Is oak fenced for now. Shows some late heat. No hurry for this. From mid-2014. 2027-28 Nov 2011

2009

(casks) good, full robe, nicely dark. Creamy black fruit air that has a southern sweetness in it, as a reflection of very ripe crop, while black olives ride alongside – overall the nose is fine. The palate also possesses this textured, creamy nature, but the second half is more serious and reserved, implicating ripe, slow-burn tannins. Good structure, proper wine – I like the “darkness” in the flavour. It spreads well in its later stages, and carries licorice and Brazilian cafezinho on the aftertaste. Modern wine that I would to have a shade more oomph. From 2013. 2022-24 Nov 2010

2007

full, dark robe. Has a restrained, floral aroma, the fruit softly set within – it is obviously not yet varied, and is almost chunky for now. The palate holds clear-toned fruit, with an attractive brimming juice and freshness. This has presence, and a sound level of black fruit and tannin alongside. The fruit is especially persistent. It rocks on well, even though it is slightly enforced. Good heart in this. From late 2010. Bottled 3 days ago. 2020-22 Dec 2008

2006

full robe with a slight air of reduction – its red raspberry fruits have a quiet grace, a mystery smokiness. The palate has a good vigour about it – it is clear and virile, the fruit wrapped in tannins that mix ripeness and freshness. The length is good, and it ends on olive, charcoal notes. Raspberry emerges as the main fruit taste. This is good – a mix of modern and traditional Cornas. From 2011. 2019-21 March 2009

2005 ()

full black-mauve robe, with a good tint in it. The nose is very homogenous, even and carries good poise. There is a little grilling form the oak, and a wink of fruit clarity. Good, suave fruit on the palate, this has a seamless texture, there is very good silk here, and good flow, too. The tannins are soundly ripe. The balance is good, the future, too. It persists well and displays a good, late mineral tingle. From 2010, for instance. 2022-25 Dec 2007

2004 ()

low key, red fruits aroma, sprinkled with pepper, not very long. Supple texture on palate, this has a simple fruitiness, is a surface wine without much underneath. From a lesser, low site, I suspect (tasted blind). A bit more integrated by 2007-08. 2014-15 April 2006
