The Wines

from Contour Block 4 (1898 Shiraz), 4,200-6,000 b

deep robe that is brighter than the McLaren Flat, has bright notes in it. Young, fresh bouquet – blueberry, citrus airs, juniper here – plenty to come, brown soils airs as well. There is schist style clarity here, a mineral tang delivered. Fine, classy wine straight away. There is a flavour of blackcurrants with a good furl of lightness in the fruit that really ticks along well. Ends with lissom but sustained tannin. Very good late harmony. Smooth texture, a wine with a long way to go. Only 200 yards from the Blewitt Springs vineyard. Note that a first bottle was more evolved, more southern, less bright. 14°. 2026-28 Oct 2009
