60% Grenache (1950s), 30% Syrah (late 1970s), 10% Cinsault (late 1960s), from galet stone covered limestone-clay soils at Roquemaure, hand harvested, destemmed, varieties co-fermented, 8-14 day vinification, wild yeasts, pumping overs, aged 80-100% concrete vat, 0-20% 1-8 year 228-litre oak casks 12 months, then all vat raised 6 months, unfined, filtered, until 2009 was Côtes du Rhône, “drink with pigeon & black olives, roast veal, filet mignon of pork on the barbecue with ratatouille”, 16-20,000 b

2018 ()

quite a full red colour; the bouquet is led by its Grenache, giving a plum fruiting with spice attached, a note of jam depth and savoury touch in it. It’s going to blossom nicely. The palate attacks on fleshy content, has a slight pause, then persists discreetly and well, is low on fireworks. It’s rather tender, a gradual gainer with time, will benefit also from decanting. The finish is spiced, gummy, not yet fully in shape. 14.5°. 60% Gren, 30% Syr, 10% Cinsault. €13 at the Château. From late-2021. 2028-30 Oct 2020

2017

shiny red robe; the nose is expressive, showing its red berry fruit well, gives a plump and appealing first impression. There’s a suggestion of mixed dried herbs in the background. The palate gives a genuine take on nicely ripe, stylish Grenache, with mobile, squeezy tannins. The red fruits parade well, and it’s well suited to lamb dishes, there you go. This is savoury, tasty, aromatic, will please. 60% Gren, 30% Syr, 10% Cinsault. All vat raised. From spring 2020. 2030-32 May 2019

2016 ()

fairly dark red; has a soft, mild raspberry, red berry fruit aroma, a perfumed sweetness denoting relaxed winemaking, cooked plums. The palate starts on supple content, is fluid and squeezy, gathers grain-flecked tannins. It is subdued; time and decanting will make it more expressive. Gentle Grenache sits here, shapely and unforced, the Syrah bringing a little darkness on the finale. It’s a safe, Solid Operator with some charm. 14.5°. 20,000 b. 60% Gren, 30% Syr, 10% Cins. €5.80 export. From spring 2019. 2028-29 Aug 2018

2015

plum red robe. The nose is sultry, in transition between its first youth and second stage, so there is a toffee-caramel angle from the oak above its quite cooked plum fruit. The palate has a gummy texture, also not crisply declared as it evolves. There is an inlay of spiced plum fruit, but the elements aren’t all together as yet. The aftertaste is round, squelchy, gummy. Park this in the siding until late 2018; it’s still in the cellar, fails to “sparkle”. It can improve from three stars. Decanting advised. 14.5°. 2025-27 Sept 2017

2014 ()

shiny, quite dark red robe. There is a cool note to the bouquet, which reflects blueberry fruit, with a black fruit lozenge level of sweetness and a hint of black pepper. It is a rounded start. The palate is well lined with juicy fruit, all very approachable and on the go. The tannins are mild and the content rolls along with abandon. Good restaurant drinking wine, all about accessible, free roll fruit = w.o.w. wine. 14.5°. 14.5°. €5.75. 16,000 b. 2022-23  Feb 2016
