The Wines

100% Syrah from mica schist, gneiss soils, raised 228-litre & 600-litre oak casks 18 months, biodynamic wine

2017

(228-litre/600-litre casks) deep black-tinted colour. The nose holds an underlying sweetness, cassis and dark chocolate, green oak, is close to prune in its ripeness. It’s a thick, solid opening. The palate is muscular, forceful – there’s a close-knit content, a note of extraction, oaking too prominent, rendering it dry in the late stages. This is very cellar-induced wine as it stands. 100% Syrah. From 2022, decant it. 2032-34 Dec 2018

2016

(casks) dark red robe, crimson rim. The bouquet is closely packed with dark berry fruits, blackcurrants, airs of slate, oak and licorice, a hint of grilling. It has a little northern sector stiffness. The palate bears black berry, prune flavours with a nudge of sweetness towards the finish. The aftertaste is tarry, rather thick, shows charcoal. There is a jack in the box heart waiting to jump out of this, I feel. The fruit is full of beans on the finish, which engages the drinker well. It carries commendable detail. From spring 2020. 2030-33 Nov 2017
