(casks) maybe plus healthy dark robe. The nose has a stylish depth, led by black berry fruits with a murmur of oak, hence tar, some licorice. It sets up the palate well, and that runs consecutively, carries abundant juice and an inner grapiness of the Syrah, a good display. The gras is most enjoyable, plumptious. This is a good cocktail, and will particularly please when served in a large glass around five years’ old. It is fine to drink from spring 2019. 2025-27 Nov 2017

2015

(casks) dark, full and shiny robe. The nose is buoyed by streamlined cassis fruit, black cherry also, licorice and toasting from oak also present. The palate attacks brightly via well juiced content with a suave run until the crunchy tannins hit town. The finish is fresh, purposeful, shows no slippage. This is stylish, tuneful St Jo, suggests a good granite provenance. From 2019. 2029-31 Oct 2016

(casks) mottled dark red, less bright than many. The nose gives an aroma of stewed red fruits, a note of thyme, is advancing in its evolution. The palate holds red berry fruit flavours, with a line of chalky tannins as it ends. It could have more lift and a bit more body. Close to ready. A steady sort of wine. (casks) dark colour. The nose presents soaked fruits, black pepper top spicing, a char and tar combine, is good and deep. The palate is intricate: it has a core of rather concentrated black fruit juice, with a little meaty surround, good “of the earth and soil” qualities. There are flashes of blueberry on the finish, in with licorice and mocha. Good structure: a wine that will travel far and will impress drinkers. There is a fine, tasty late spot of fruit.
