2016 ()

(casks) very dark robe. The nose is well lifted, has a crunchy black-fruited aroma mostly inspired by the Syrah for now, with oak-varnish, pine in evidence. The palate runs smoothly, has a black fruit, black olive base with sound freshness driving the late moments. The oak isn’t aggressive, and can take its place within by around 2022. There is more Grenache influence on the palate, that aids its texture, renders it plump. From 2021-22, thus. 2031-33 Oct 2017

2015

(casks) full, dark colour. The nose gives a softly deep blackcurrant aroma, with a light floral edging to it, some blueberry, salt and licorice also present. The palate is tasty on the attack, bustles along with vigour and a good, fluid run of tangy black berry fruits that wash nice and widely. The finish is gently curved. A wine of some polish, and good potential for a harmonious outcome. From spring 2019. 2031-33 Feb 2017

2013

(cask/vat, bottling June 2015) bright purple hue. Vanilla oak and red berry fruit show on the nose. Oak comes through again on the palate, but so does the fruit. There is decent substance on the mid-palate. Its tannins are firm but rounded on the finish. A modern interpretation, but one that doesn’t overstretch the bounds. 14°. 55% Gren, 40% Syr, 5% Mourv. 15,000 b. €18. From 2017. 2027-28  JL Dec 2014

2012

(cask/vat, bottling May 2014) dark, full robe. Oily, inset oak and a wave of liqueur black cherry fruit appear on the nose, doesn’t offer variety as yet. The palate presents a workmanlike mix of fruit and oak; the fruit starts on some gras richness, then quietens down. It is still very much in the cellar, the finish tight and compressed. Decant it, allow time. From 2016. 13.5°. €17 at the cellars. 15,000 b. 55% Gren (down 10%), 40% Syr (up 10%), 5% Mourv this year. 2024-25  Dec 2013

2011 ()

(cask/vat) dark red; juicy, black cherry aroma that is fat n’easy, has a curvy Cassis de Dijon note, is inviting. The palate holds easy to drink black berry fruit, supplemented by a little grain from its tannins after half way. All measured and orderly. There is a likeable cool thread, a true Gigondas presence, through the palate. It is still running as it ends. Stylish, authentic, well-made, has strong length, decent balance. From 2015. 14°5. 2026-28  Dec 2012

2010

(cask/vat) shiny, full robe; chocolate, crunchy air, oak built into creamy black fruit, is wide and will be stylish. Has prune and raspberry fruit also. Fine-tuned oaking runs with its easy, aromatic, wavy black fruit. Good level of finesse here; it is all very together, is a svelte whole. Fine grain oak peeks through on the aftertaste. A precise, more Burgundian sort of Gigondas. From 2014. 2031-33 Dec 2011

2009 ()

steady red robe. The bouquet has a dusty top air, a smoky-oak top, a tight aroma of bacon, the smoke influence again. The palate is dense, still shows the effect of its raising. The finish is sturdy. It lacks the charm of some domaines. It has hardly got its gras richness mojo going, and is overtly oaked as it stands: the oak has intervened and upped its game since last tasted, so patience is required. Decant it. 14.5°. From 2016. 2025-27  Nov 2013  Previously July 2011 ***** (vat) shiny, full red; curvaceous, but restrained black fruits aroma, light airs of crème de menthe, and leather influences – there is an engaging blackberry here. There is a sweet softness in the blackberry fruit on the palate – it attracts the attention well. A good front load of fruit here, off its goes, with appeal. The length is OK. It is nice and fleshy, a bountiful Gigondas. The tannin quality is above average for 2009 – the tannins are fine, ripe. There are meaty, full notes on the aftertaste. From mid-2013. 2025-27 July 2011

2008 ()

rather dark robe. Black cherry liqueur or coulis aroma, with light game influences, sweet tea, sweet flattery moments. The palate lacks freshness – the fruit has a sheen about it, but its grip is fragile, and I suspect it will be tired by around 2013. Lacks structure. 14.5°. Dec 2009

2007

maturing plum red robe. Pepper and spice top air, grainy black fruit below, plus a violet enhancement. Pleasing black fruit on the attack – good, tasty, in the here and now, is backed by fine, clear tannins. This works well to give local wine with appeal, no waiting needed. It is bit curly on the finish. Can continue to 2018. 14.5°. Dec 2009 Previously Nov 2008 **(*) (casks) ample black robe; has a “correct”, measured black fruits aroma – some suave fruit awaits – this is a polished greeting. The palate has a quiet harmony; the fruit within doesn`t reach for the sky – it proceeds carefully, no risks taken. It ends on a comfortable, chocolate style note. A wine that plays it safe. From late 2009. 2016-17 Nov 2008

2006

secure red robe. A roll of red berry, simmered fruits on the nose which is still young, willing, a touch sweet, suggests a jelly influence, is easy to appreciate. The palate starts carefully, the red fruit within is poised, has a smooth coating. A primary, not yet nuanced wine. It ends a little vacantly, maybe because the oak pushes it in. Easy promise to please, without demands. Will be broader on the finish from mid-2009. 2016-17 Nov 2008 Previously Jan 2008 (casks) ***(*) blackberry robe. The bouquet gives a smoky (from the oak) first impression, but there is crème de blackberry beyond, and some licorice in the curve of the aroma. The palate holds fruit with life in it; does not come from the very profound school or style, but keeps going steadily. There is a late outcrop of tannin. Has the potential to meld well, and the finale is fresh. It is a bit constructed but offers potential. There is a wee licorice, tar, cocoa aftertaste. From 2010. 2019-21 Jan 2008

2005 ()

quite a full red plum colour; there is a wee sweet curve to the red fruit on the nose – it is Grenache-led, nicely supple and round, with some herbal airs. The palate kicks off with Grenache plum fruit that has a good, clear tone. There is good sequence along the palate, with the fruit poised and the length sure. The finish is clear-toned, reflecting some limestone clarity. Quiet muscle, a wine of sound potential. Herb and sweet spices fringe the finish. From 2010. 2020-22 June 2008

2004

sound red; brewed, prune aroma that is well together. Red meat and hints of oak follow that early impression. The palate is suavely textured and full. Its red fruit is clearly defined, but the oak is well on top. It is moving in the right direction, but just lacks a little mid-palate heart. Esp late 2008 on. 2017-19 Dec 2006

2003

violet, notably floral air to an elegant and sweet bouquet – it offers succulent appeal. There is a round start to the palate, with ripe fruit there. There is an oily thread along the palate, and good breadth in it. Not a snappy, decisive wine, one with boudoir leanings. The aftertaste of prune confirms that. Correct wine. 2014-16 July 2005

2001

solid bouquet, with sap in it, has a generous nature, with some pepper. Red cherry fruit kicks off the palate – more cellar than vineyard in nature. Ends a little dry, on the chocolate from the oak. 2013-14 July 2005

2000

nice evolution on the nose, with some jam and spice and syrup in a broad, meaty affair. This is a wine of a certain depth, with tannic edging, quite a garrigue nature. Its tannins and oak are still there. 2012-14 July 2005

1998

still dark robe, full at its centre. Tarry, rather intense, international nose – smoky, small black fruits on display. Tight-knit palate, has a little plumpness and gras in its kid to late stage. It is a touch plain, has no real distinguishing features, but is agreeable, still young. It is rather got-up, but there is the richness of Gigondas inside it. It is not local. It drinks well now. 13.5°. 2019-21 June 2010
