80% Grenache, 10-20% Syrah, 0-10% Mourvèdre, pre 2nd World War vines, from clay-limestone soils on La Ponche on La Garrigue, hand harvested, whole bunch fermentation, 3-4 week vinification, daily pumping overs, steel vat raised 6 months (down from12 months pre-2015, & before early 2010s was aged large 45-50 hl barrels of Russian oak 12-18 months), unfined, filtered, 3,300-4,000 b

2015 ()

steady red robe. The nose is dark, hearty, broad, has a chocolate-rubber duo with an insert of compact raspberry fruit, just a note of flowers. The palate also gives a dark, slightly wild content, with power in its veins as it finishes with a spirity hum, front of the mouth acidity. The tannins push forward and add to the general punch of the wine, leaving a toffee-like flavour. This is a traditional glass with no false make-up: drink from late 2018. 14.5°. 3,300 b. 80% Gren, 10% Syr, 10% Mourv. 2026-28 March 2017

2014

(vat) dark red. The bouquet is punchy, reduced, gives an air of pork scratchings in its grilled manner, along with prune-blackberry within. It has some sweet southern context. There is a healthy wildness. The palate starts on black pepper, spiced black fruits, delivered with a saltiness that helps the verve of the wine in its late stages. Plenty going on here: allow until 2018. It is stimulating, also demanding, for now; it has the structure to live and vary. 14°. 4,000 b. €14 = VALUE. 2024-26  Dec 2015

2011

quite a dark red. Brewed, meaty air, the clear fruit resembling blackberry. There are leather notes as well in what is still an upright, unfurled setting. The palate fruit is subdued, not that clear-cut. Tannins ride along obviously, while its acidity lies on the outside, and the finish is toasted. The palate isn’t yet ensemble, has local strength and a simmer of warm stones and charge in its veins. Some potential, a wine of local ID.
