2016 ()

dark red robe. The bouquet reflects the southern plain of Crozes via its floral, musky aroma with sweet strawberry jam in the mix as well. It’s a rounded opening. The palate is gently perfumed with soft content, a neat ball of red berry fruits backed by cool, pebbly tannins. There is nothing showy about this genuine Crozes, which drinks with comforting ease now. 13°. 2020-21 Nov 2017

2015

dark robe. The nose is bouncy, vibrant, a fest of blackberry fruits – their abundant coulis. It rocks on, is on light licorice, raspberry also. There is a floral-rose theme along a smooth palate; it runs with life and cool late delivery. Fruit and flair feature here. Salted late moments really help a second glass. This is uptempo Crozes red, on the button w.o.w. wine. It holds fine powder tannins, gains late darkness, wee tar from them at the end, with a hint of black olives. This has good balance, and will age well.  There’s violet on the aftertaste. 13°. 2025-27 March 2018

2014 ()

(casks) dark robe. The nose is pretty dense, has a mulled black fruits air, a compote or stewed aspect. The palate spreads widely, gives a rolling wave of fleshy content, the tannins present and largely supple. This goes an enjoyably long way, and in tasty fashion. Modern, clear, and good to drink with roast lamb and rosemary, shallots. 12.5°. 80,000 b. From mid-2016. 2021-22  Oct 2015

2013

medium+ depth of red. There are game and reduction notes on the nose, which has an air of nice big berries and a plump centre: this is a rounded and inviting start. The palate has a squeezy debut, presents mulberry and raspberry fruit with some tenacity in its tannins. It lengthens pretty solidly. The exit gives tar, slightly gummy notions. There is a little dark concentration in this, and it will be better and more supple in 2016. 12.5°. 2021-23 GB £72/6 bots in bond Berry Brothers 0800 280 2440 +44(0)207 022 8973  www.bbr.com Feb 2015

2012 ()

(casks) dark robe; ink spots, dark moments on the nose, which as southern leaning via its thick black jam fruit, black olives, copious black cherry, gives a coated effect. This is serious Crozes-Hermitage: it is immediately stylish, carries lightly scented black fruit with a fine fencing in by its tannins and absorbing oak. Serve it in a large glass, swirl it around, and enjoy. The fruit persists. 12.5°. €18 at cellars, 80,000 b. From late 2014. 2021-22 Nov 2013

2011 ()

(casks) dark robe. The bouquet has a confident depth, shows a compact roll of black cherry with violet lacing around it. The palate is elegant, possesses flowing black stone fruits, has floral drifts, and tannins that stand up well. The aftertaste is nutty, crunchy. Stylish, promising wine – good length, a fresh finale, and great drinking around 2015. 2020-21  Nov 2012

2010

healthy, full red; lightly smoked, touch of licorice, pretty berry air with a suggestion of blackberry that peeks out of a full nose that is not yet open: good, even qualities and balance so far. The palate has a likeable grain, so good clarity in its black fruit that presses on all through the palate, ending with a complete run to the line. There is fine mineral siding to this, and an intense centre to its fruit. Good and drinkable, and has some cards still to show. 12.5°. Bottled Dec 2011. 2020-21. “2010 is the best vintage in 20 years – balance, finesse, the wines are a bit less accessible than the 2009s. The grapes were magnificent at harvest time.” Feb 2012

2008 ()

steady red; violet, floral, Pez sweets mask over its mild red fruit aroma, a shade of reduction in it. The palate holds simple, soft fruit, laced with violet at the end, a bit perfumato. Drinks now. Ends on a little pocket of tannin, tapers a bit, but drinks easily. Modest, OK. 12.5°. To 2012. Dec 2009

2007 ()

dark, bright black robe; pepper, smoky aroma that leans towards raisin in it, the fruit black cherry with a liqueur tendency and a touch of olive and high tone. The palate also offers black cherry, clear-lined fruit, with an inherent vigour about it. The aftertaste is scented. This has a determined strut, is a wine of character and life. Can soften a little away from today's upright nature. A crisp drinking wine that goes “bang”. From mid-2009. 12.5°. To 2014. Bottled 20 Nov 2008, ie 2+ weeks ago. Dec 2008

2006 ()

dark traces in a full plum robe; The nose is reserved – shows close-knit black fruit for now, but can get moving. There is nice, supple black fruit on show on the palate – it is very representative of southern Crozes, has an olive-tapenade tendency. An easy-going wine, with supple and sympa Syrah from the rolled stones down south, w.o.w. The tannins are fine, and there is a hint of late grain from them. Bottled end Nov 2007. 2015-16 Jan 2008

2005

quite a dark robe; the bouquet carries black stone fruit, backed by mint, pepper, smoke. The palate runs with smooth-textured black fruit at the start, this is a down the line wine with some structure and length. Its plum fruit persists, but the late oak needs a little time to settle. From mid-2008. 2013-14 Nov 2006

2004

quite full, earthy bouquet shows red berry jam, ripe wild strawberries, is a little baked. Baked, red fruit flavour that extends fine along the palate. No great nuance, dries towards finish. There is a little meatiness in mid-palate, try this in 2007. 2010-11 April 2006

2003 ()

mature fruit with dank side, bouquet is weighty. Really warm and rounded palate - slightly sweet, closely packed black fruit. Sunny wine, elegant. Correct tannins, length OK. Quite direct in its way. Esp 2006-07 on. 2013-16

2002

(cask) soft-fruited, smoky nose; cooked berries, more jammy than usual, quite suave. Some end tannin. Esp 2005.

2001 ()

stewed black fruit/olives, typical nose; smooth texture, cherry/wild strawberry flavour, tar end. Fine, persists well. 2010-11

2000 ()

lively, open, vigorous fruit bouquet; red fruits line the palate, push out well. Juicy, a touch of jam on finish, gives pleasure. 2007-08

1996

red berry, vanilla aroma - becomes milder with air. Firm cherry fruit, excellent with salmon. Decent grip all through, slightly dry tendency. Dec 1997
