The Wines

2002

half bottle - sound robe, is matt but depth is OK. Spiced, quiet jam aroma with cassis, mentholet/eucalyptus (g'day, Bruce!) - does have a Syrah at its northern ripening extreme character. Palate steps out well, shows cassis fruit that is round. Keeping its black fruit well, lengthens nice and calmly, shows licorice at end. Pebbly final texture. Good for the vintage. 2010-11 "We sorted the crop four times - three in the vineyards and a fourth time in the cellar," Y Gangloff Previously Nov 2004 **(*) cool berry, firm aroma. Fair fruit, restrained wine, fresh, early drinking. Small amount of richness - there has been a slight gain in last year. To 2008-09. Nov 2004 Note 40% crop lost, so this was the only wine made, no new oak, ageing in oak lasted only 18 months

1994 ()

magnum, March 2005 age creeping into the bouquet, is dry-toned. Palate shows some warmth still, spiced and prune flavour. Holds together quite well, then runs out of road towards the finish. Drink it up. Previously March 2003, Ampuis *** pale red colour; rather taut bouquet, plum, tobacco, tea leaf, floral undertones. Soft, quiet warmth with true Côte-Rôtie definition. Tender garden fruits flavour. Drink soonish, to 2006-07
