The Wines

100% Syrah (mid-1980s) from schist & gneiss soils, destemmed, 4 week vinification, part vat emptying/refilling, pumping overs, raised 30-70% concrete vat, 30-70% 228-litre oak casks 10-12 months, unfined, unfiltered, "drink with spring lamb, roast lamb cutlets, hare stew", 6-10,000 b

2015

(casks) fully set, dark robe. The nose sits with an assured depth of black berry fruit, has an oily ripeness, leans towards a plump prune and cold tea aroma. The palate delivers good quality black fruit with a discreet, valuable line of freshness through it. This goes long, is thorough, well founded, even if there is a little tapering as it closes. It’s full of enjoyable gras and the tannins slot in well. 13°. 6,000 b. From spring 2018. 2025-26 Oct 2016

2013

(vat/casks) quite a dark red. Grilled airs, a pork crackling lean on the nose – there is an air of stewed plums within. The palate clusters rather than extends, a setback being the constant graininess through it. Has a low-key red fruit flavour. Lacks roundness. 12.5°. 6,000 b this year. To 2018  Jan 2015

2012 ()

(vat/casks) rather dark red; has a blackberry fruit aroma of some style, a spot of sweetness contributing “glamour” to it. The flavour of liqueur black fruits runs in an a straight line, with a little fine tannin around it. The finish is crisp. A bit on the technical side, lowish on soul. Is OK, but . .  The fruit stops a little short. 13°. 2017-18  Nov 2013
