90% Grenache (late 1930s), 5% Syrah, 2% Cinsault, 2% Mourvèdre, 1% Grenache blanc, Clairette blanche from 3.5 hectares next to the domaine, 90% destemmed, 3 week vinification, 1 part vat emptying/refilling at the start, 2 daily pumping overs during alcoholic fermentation, then 1 daily during maceration, max temp 30°C, concrete vat raised 13-14 months, fined, unfiltered, 10-12,000 b

2018

(steel vat, bottling Dec 2019) dark red; mulberry, mixed black stone fruits, violets show in a confident, appealing aroma. The palate bears fluid gras, with a gradual increase in intensity that moves it towards the South, black olives territory. It holds lots of well struck fruit, has good spring in it, captures 2018 very well. There’s a bit of pebble grain at the end. 14.5°. From late 2020. 2029-31 Oct 2019

2016 ()

dark red; meat, red blood droplets, garrigue and olives, cassis and blue fruit assemble on a tight, butty bouquet. The palate has an aromatic hover above its concentrated red fruits with drive in the tannins. There is lots of business here, it’s a rampant wine with ground force, energy, fire. The aftertaste is good and intense, has real carry, with iodine on the close. It’s top grade Côtes with much character. 14.5°. From 2022. 2037-39 Oct 2019

2015 ()

(vat) red robe; the nose is mild, getting together gradually. For now, there is an air hay, raspberry fruit, a little dried thyme. The palate issues red fruits with a live freshness and spicing present. It travels in a direct, assured line, builds a little inner strength on the finish. This is Grenache wine with local features, and a structure to evolve. 14.5°. €5.20. From late 2017. 2025-27  June 2016 

2014 ()

(vat) medium depth red robe. Lightly sweet, red fruited, raspberry aroma, a light expression of herbs. The palate holds easy red fruit, has a brief pastille quality. It is a shade light as it finishes. To 2019.  Oct 2015 

2013

typical Grenache red robe. The bouquet lies quietly, is on the mineral side, and gives the pedigree of its old vines via a comely floral, lavender air that hovers over its precise raspberry fruit. This is rocky, mineral on the attack, threaded with currently sharp red fruit. It produces some chalky, fine grain tannins towards the finish. This is authentic to a tee, STGT wine. A connoisseur’s wine, not that straightforward. Good with game dishes, roast beef. Decanting an aid. It isn’t going to evolve quickly. 14°. From spring 2017 for more refinement on the finish. 2024-26  Oct 2015

2012 ()

(vat) medium depth red; the nose is still raw, offers some interest, combines red plum fruit, scent of flowers. It is also a little dusty and peppery. The palate is elegant, centred on tasty fruit – this is pure and pretty stylish. It feels like a hand made, small domaine wine. The finale is fresh, as it should be in 2012. Some carbonic gas is present. The fruit also gives juicy appeal late on. From mid-2014. 14°. €8.50 at the cellars. 2020-22  Oct 2013

2011

(vat) shiny, quite full red. The nose is led by supple raspberry fruit that has an appealing sweetness, and shows the roundness of the Grenache and its good 2011 virtues, including the dusty divorce between tannin and the early fruit when it comes to the finish. Traditional, local, not fully knit wine. The attack sets off on redcurrant or raspberry liqueur fruit, with alcohol discernible, so it chunks up in shape as it goes. 2009

matt, quite full red; red cherry, typical Grenache aroma, well scented, reflects the jelly juice side of 2009 correctly, and brings in licorice and fennel into the red fruit – elegant bouquet here. The palate also displays ripe Grenache plum fruit – this has a good core, and is stylish, even if it is intrinsically powerful. Good, steady length. Has a fine line of crisp, menthol tannin at the end, and a herbal aftertaste. The finish is very lucid, snaps with clarity. This can drink well. STGT wine, very much so. From 2012. 2022-24 Oct 2010

2008

(vat) fair red robe, matt tone. Gentle deoth in the nose – red jelly, rose scents around it. There is more mass on the palate than suggested by the nose. Its fruit is sealed up, its foundation secure. Pretty serene wine. From late 2010. 2014-15  Nov 2009  Previously March 2009 *** (vat) bright, mild red colour. Has a smoky, nicely clear aroma with a grounded nature – there is a good couch of matter. There is an early Grenache strike on the palate – red fruit such as cherry, spice and pepper with it. It runs directly towards the finish. This is promising, a wine for drinking around mid to late 2010. The length is good, there is a touch of late tannin and it is very correct, as the locals say. STGT wine. To be bottled Nov 2009. To 2014-15. March 2009

2007 ()

pretty, busy red colour; the outer bouquet is nutty, grainy, while the inner aroma offers well-inset red berry fruit and herbs. The palate is wide and persists – there is volume here, a wine that delivers a mouth-filling red fruit, with a late nibble of tannin. Good length, a wine of quiet power that persists. 2006 ()

sound, very Grenache red robe, which is clear; has a bouquet of authority – poised red fruits, cherry in the air – that persists well. There is a nice and pure cut of gib on the palate – one can peer inside the grape, a wine of very clean lines that is nice and unforced. A little heat builds up, summons a local calling late on. Drinks well now, still in its primary form. The end couch of matter is encouraging. Interesting, delicate, beau vin that could be overlooked in the stampede for muscled wines. STGT territory here. 2012-13. Good with pork, maybe tuna as well. Feb 2009

2005 ()

plum colour, a touch of purple – there is slight give in the depth of the robe. This has an attractive berry fruit aroma, lots of dash and plenty in it, blackberry and elderberry – it really holds well, and offers lots for its humble station. There are very light peppery notions of intrigue in the bouquet as well. This has a genuine 2005, upright nature, the texture cool. The depth is good – this is a serious wine for meat, chicken, strong flavours. Robust wine that is wide across its final stage, where there is a development of power and southern insistence. This has brilliant cut, lucid blueberry fruit, as it breathes. Day 3 to judge further: it is holding well, airs of black jam, smoke, in rounded fashion. There is good grain on the palate, lots of garrigue notes and the cut and clarity of 2005. 14°. 2019-20  Dec 2013, East Sussex
