2018

(casks) sombre dark red; the nose is reserved, has a sense of fermentation process, black cherry with cooked apple. The palate shows a mix of oak and tasty fruit pastilles, red berries. The fruit style is simmered, well ripened. It finishes a little suddenly, but can come together. There is a little coolness late on, which is welcome. It bears firm sides, is well channelled. From 2023. 2039-41 Nov 2019

2017

(casks) sombre dark robe; the nose produces firm oak varnish, which prevails over its blackberry fruit within. The oak brings sweetness. The palate is close-knit, rather powerful, cellar-induced in its strength. The fruit is clear enough, the length is sound, if charry. It’s a formula Côte-Rôtie that is low on soul, requires leaving until 2023 to be more civilised and interesting. 98% Syrah, 2% Viognier. 2032-34 Dec 2018

2015

(casks) dark, attractive robe. The bouquet is promising, with a deep inlay of wavy black fruits, and a silken hint of flowers. The palate bounds along with rolling black fruits, and salt-lined tannins easing into the picture before the finish, which is nice and fresh. This is an up-tempo 2015 Rôtie, with energy and cut, fun on the agenda. 14°. 4,500 b. From mid-2018. 2028-30 Oct 2016
