100% Grenache (1960s) from clay soils, destemmed, 2-3 week vinification, pumping overs, 50% concrete vat, 50% used 228-litre oak cask raised 8 months, unfined, filtered


red robe. There is slight reduction over the nose, with an amalgam of red cherry, strawberry, mulberry within; it suggests a little eau de vie power. There’s a garrigue, mixed herbs infill also. It’s a broad, sustained opening. This is broad and pretty imposing, bears a spiced strawberry jam flavour with chunky tannins bulking it up after half way: hence it ends solidly. This is real sit-down, autumn-winter wine for game stews. The Grenache fruit content carries the thick juice of old vines, their sap texturing the palate. It rolls into a dense ball on the peppery close. It’s very persistent. 14.5°. From spring 2018. 2025-26 Oct 2017
