The Wines

90-100% Viognier (1993, grafted over Mourvèdre, vines from Domaine Georges Vernay at Condrieu), 0-10% Roussanne from very stony clay-sandy slope soils on La Clavelle, cool decantation, wild yeasts only, new 600-litre oak cask fermented at 18°C, raised 70% steel vat, 30% new 600-litre oak casks 4 months, fine lees stirred, malo usually blocked, can be completed, filtered, "drink as aperitif or with shellfish", 2,500-4,000 b


a slight pear hue marks the yellow robe. There is light toasting on the nose, an air of ginger, cooked apple and pear, the latter denoting Viognier. This drinks with a fluid richness at its heart, and ends softly. The flavour is white fruits compote. It’s a low acidity wine for drinking by 2018. 2014 ()

fine yellow robe; has a nicely clear, relaxed and very attractive bouquet, led by cassis bud, citrus fruits, infused tea such as tilleul (linden). The palate holds enjoyable, slightly spiced gras richness, and extends well into a clear finish. This has style. It is drinking very well now, as an aperitif or with light flavours, vegetarian pasta, noodles, steamed dishes. 14°. 100% Vio, 2,500 b. To 2017  Apr 2015

2012 ()

slightly creamy yellow colour. Has a toasted outer air, glazed fruits, marmalade inside, banana, petrol and pear: a filled up bouquet. The palate runs up a rich, ripe fruit-oaked flag – this is a wine made in the cellar, needs sauced dishes. Oak stands alone too much on the aftertaste. It has a rich air and palate richness, so wait until late 2014 for less oak. If you like oak, though, go for it now. The strong oak imprint on the exit is too much for its balance, so marked accordingly. 14°. 50% vat, 50% oak. To 2018. 4,000 b.   Oct 2013

2011 ()

pale yellow, rather shiny, fine legs down the glass. There is a pear-apricot mix on the first nose, a jam air with nice lumps of the fruit in it. Vanilla and pear come back in a second wave. The palate rolls steadily along thanks to its agreeable richness, gras, offering a ripe texture and steady roundness. There is a note of late oak, with liquid honey in the flavour there. The fruit is a quince-apricot mix, with its oak inside, the oak gradually absorbing, and helping to build up the depth of finish. Very well handled in the cellar - an articulate wine that persists well. It is now just entering its second, richer and jam-like stage. 14°. To 2016. €7.30 export.  Oct 2012


pale yellow. Nicely tight aroma, lemon tart-lime, bergamot, banana, cooked Pear William. The palate shows a tight, mineral wine that is closely packed. It ends on spice, and light herb influences - there is late grip, a bitter note and a glow as it closes down. It is fresh enough for the aperitif. Very clean and clear, runs in a straight line. I would like steamed fish sprinkled with herbs, fennel with this. 14°. To 2015. Dec 2011
